We are a casual, European-inspired neighborhood brasserie located on Madison's historic Monroe Street. Our concept is really pretty simple. It was borne out of the passion for the French Joie de Vivre developed over years spent in France and Belgium, and combines our love of rustic French food paired with Belgian beer and noble wines.
Our name is derived from the French word brasser which means to brew, and brasserie which means brewery. In France and Belgium, a brasserie is a type of restaurant that evolved from Alsatian breweries that serves alcohol (typically beers), and simple plates of food. They tend to serve more popular French or Belgian dishes from many different regions.
We serve lunch and dinner daily, and as well as our full dinner menu on Sunday. We also offer an extensive rotating selection of over 250 world-class beers, including over 100 Belgians, 26 tap options and all of our beer coolers are temperature controlled so the beers are presented at the recommended temp for the style. You can also enjoy our full wine list featuring mostly European wines, all by the glass or the bottle.
Our chef Casey Trumble and his staff prepare our food from scratch on-premise, using fresh, high-quality ingredients. While we are inspired globally, but we source locally where we can. Some of our current local sources include Fountain Prairie Farms, Jordandal Farms, Potter's Crackers, Bleu Mont Dairy, Garden To Be, Elderberry Hill Farm, Crossroads Community Farm, Madison Sourdough bread and Cha Cha Tea among others.
Signature menu items include Frites (hand-cut potatoes double-fried in the classic Belgian tradition and accompanied with rotating aiolis), Cheeseboards with outstanding artisinal cheeses, and the Brasserie V Belgian salad (Friseeí and grilled Belgian endive, crumbled egg, warm bacon, toasted almonds, and apple, tossed in apple cider vinaigrette).
The dinner menu always includes Steak-Frites (featuring a seared 12 oz Flatiron steak), Moules et Frites (classic Mussels Mariniere in a garlic, wine and butter broth), and Duck (currently served grilled). The rest of our menu varies seasonally, and you will often find one of Chef Casey's daily specials on the chalkboard.
